The Allendale County Chamber is proud to announce that Joyce Topper of Fairfax has joined the Chamber Board of Directors.  Joyce is a long time resident of Fairfax and is the widow of Joe Topper.  We are very happy to have her aboard.
 
South Carolina Archives and History Foundation’s Annual Meeting and Chairman’s Reception PDF Print E-mail
Columbia, SC—On October 26th, the South Carolina History and Archives Foundation (SCAHF) will host its Annual Meeting in Newberry, SC at historic Newberry College.  The meeting portion will take place at the Alumni Music Recital Hall on campus at 2:30 p.m.  The Chairman’s Reception, hosted by Mr. W. Willson Powell—Chairman of the SCAHF Board of Directors, will follow at Oak Grove Hall, home of Mr. and Mrs. William Cross of Newberry, SC.  Oak Grove Hall was designed for Major Frederick Nance, between 1820 and 1825 by South Carolina’s very own Robert Mills.

The annual meeting will provide an update regarding the progress and activities of both the Archives and History Center as well as the progress of the Foundation.  There will be a special presentation given by Dr. Rodger Stroup, Director of the Department of Archives and History on upcoming events and tours.

The Chairman’s Reception will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Hall located at 921 Jessica Avenue, Newberry, SC.  Hors d’ oeuvres will be provided by Steven W’s Downtown Bistro of Newberry.  Those attending will be allowed to tour the historic house.  There will also be a showing of a private collection of classic and antique automobiles including Newberry’s own restored early 1900’s fire truck.  Cost for the reception is $50.00 per person.  Members are encouraged to bring guests.

The South Carolina Archives & History Foundation supports the efforts of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. It is the caretaker of the South Carolina Archives, a collection of more than 300 years of historical documents recording the rich and diverse history of the people and government of South Carolina.  In addition to preserving the documentary and cultural history of the Palmetto State, the Department also administers a variety of programs through the State Historic Preservation Office that help identify, recognize, and preserve the state's architectural and archaeological heritage.
